Microsoft already has the audio of the commands you enter and all of Cortana's responses. They are using this to make Cortana smarter and I have noticed differences since I first started using 8.1

An app could do this now.
    "Timer set for 30 minutes"
This would call up the timer app and set the timer for 30 minutes.

I do agree that Windows Phone should have timers built into the OS, for this use, and for internal use by the OS, they should be accurate and run in the background so that they could interrupt whatever is going on and be responded to by the user.

If you have any specific suggestions, post them here, in separate topics, so they may be voted on. I don't see the MS team taking the time to follow this link, let Slone taking it into consideration.

Integration something like this is already pretty good. It is true that the name of the app must be spoken, but if the app handles the WP 8.1 app model, including fast switching, it doesn't have to 'open' every time.

You are wasting your suggestions. This is already on the works.

This is probably already there if you turn on the proper emergency alerts in the phone. They are settable to always break through.

Driving mode is already there. It is activated when the phone connects to the car's Bluetooth. It does in fact respond to texts if you set it up.

This is possible, but probably only on certain phones. I am sure that Microsoft Research is already working on it. It is likely that the match would not be possible on the phone because of the computing power required.

The systems that do this now cannot recognize single words as one voice or the other. They take 30 seconds or so to decide the voice is the one saved in a previously recorded voice print.

Probably a hard deal to negotiate. Microsoft does not own the rights to Iron Man.

    First, this is two suggestions.

2nd, in some ways, the Cortana native capability is good enough, in fact, 1) Cortana already reads some match answers, she seems to only read the answer if the bolded 'instant answer' is the first one. That appears to be a bug. 2) Bing is already integrated with Wolfram Alpha, but I don't know the details of that agreement. It may be limited in some ways. WA probably is not cheap to use an their may be better alternatives for the simple functions we need here.

This deserves a lot of priority since it is so logical, and Cortana already has the logic to grab and mimic the phonemes spoken for the user's name. If we want to just add a text field for that phoneme, and add it, it will be easy for Cortana to speak that if it exists.
    -thanks
